MEETING OF 11th MARCH - Complementary Therapies

On Thursday, 11th March, the group was entertained and educated by seven speakers representing some of the major Complementary Therapies available locally led by one of our own members, Jan King.

Angela Aindow opened the evening talking on the benefits of Reflexology followed by Abigail Bramhall on Homeopathy.  Susan Cox gave an interesting introduction to Colonic Irrigation with a colourful poster to show just where and how the procedure is given and why it is so good for anyone but especially somebody undergoing cancer treatment.  Jan told us all about the history and benefits of Acupuncture and brought some needles from her clinic to relieve any concerns about it with Caroline Lewis on the use of Hypnotherapy and assuring members that it is very different from the ‘stage shows’ that we all think of when such a treatment is suggested.  Lindre Macpherson-Scott brought some sample oils and talked of the benefits of Aromatherapy and the evening was brought to a close with Lesley Pearce and Gerson Therapy/Lymphatic Drainage.

All our guest speakers emphasised that they offer Complimentary rather than Alternative therapies and all are approved as not being negative to standard treatments and anybody considering seeking a consultation for any of them should speak with their GP or specialist if they are concerned.  Several of them have provided their services at the Butterfly Centre at Epsom Hospital and/or the Fountain Centre at the Royal Surrey County Hospital so are very aware of our needs and limitations.

No treatment is offered without a prior discussion on a potential patient’s personal situation that may take up to 30 minutes.  All of them are very qualified and keep their skills and knowledge up to date with developments in their particular fields.
