| MEETING OF 14th JANUARY - Healthy Eating |
|
Jen Twydell, ably supported by her husband Richard, talked to us about the importance of diet not only to combat cancer but for general good health and well being. She referred to an excellent publication called ‘The Prostate Cancer Cookbook’ and emphasised that, although it refers to prostate cancer, the guidelines and menus are relevant to anyone wanting to live a healthy lifestyle. Whilst talking she prepared and cooked a wonderful sample of delicious vegetarian pasta from the book that we were all able to enjoy. We certainly felt warmer for the journey home.
Our numbers grow each month and with four new members this month we now number 42 and range between patients, survivors, families, carers and friends, both boys and girls. We are usually joined by representatives of cancer charities as well so it is a chance to socialise, compare stories and treatments but also find out where we can find help and where we can offer support ourselves.
The meeting ended at 10pm and our next meeting will be at The Preston Cross Hotel at 8pm on Thursday 11th February when we will learn about the work of Marie Curie. On 11th March a member will guide us along the path of Complementary Therapies and on April 15th a scientist and survivor from Cancer Research UK will update us on their latest developments.
Anyone who has experienced or has an interest in cancer is very welcome to join us at any of our meetings. There is no charge and tea and coffee are laid on for your refreshment.
